About salon booking apps

They suit regulars who see the same stylist, people who book on impulse when a gap opens in the day and anyone who dislikes waiting on hold during business hours. Reminders and in-app rescheduling or cancellation cut down on missed appointments. Some apps work with a single shop, while others list many salons across a city. Some aim for quick, walk-in style booking, others for detailed stylist profiles and photos. A few charge a booking fee, while others take a cut from the salon, which can affect prices and available times.

What to look for

  • Check how far ahead you can book and whether the app shows real-time availability, since a calendar that only reflects posted hours can leave you with a slot the stylist cannot keep.
  • Look at whether you can pick a specific stylist rather than just a time, because color, cuts, and barber work vary a lot by person and switching later may mean rebooking.
  • See how reminders and cancellations work, including any fee for cancelling late, so a change of plans does not cost you more than the service.
  • Consider whether the app takes payment upfront or in the salon, and who adds a booking fee, since that changes the final price you pay.
  • Check whether your appointment history and notes carry over between visits, which helps when you want the same shade or length again.

How we rank

Apps are ranked by their Google Play rating (weighted by how many people rated them), their number of installs, how recently they were updated and how closely they fit the category. Only apps we've reviewed are included.
