About Quran apps

Readers and listeners at every stage use them, from someone working through a single surah to a hafiz revising long portions, and they help keep a daily portion going without a printed copy. Audio-focused apps offer several reciters and repeat or loop controls for memorization. Page-focused apps offer mushaf layouts, translation columns and note-taking. A few add tafsir and word-by-word study tools. Storage size, offline access and how clearly the text is presented are what separate them most.

What to look for

  • Check which reciters are included and whether the audio can be downloaded for offline listening, since streaming every session is not practical for many people.
  • Look at how translations and tafsir are handled, because the wording and the number of available languages affect how useful the app is for study rather than recitation alone.
  • See whether bookmarks, last-read position, and notes sync or at least persist across sessions, so a daily reading habit is not interrupted.
  • Consider the size of the download and whether the full text works without a connection, as offline reading matters on commutes and during travel.
  • Find out how the app is paid for, such as a free version with ads, a paid unlock, or donations, and whether any of that interrupts reading or listening.

How we rank

Apps are ranked by their Google Play rating (weighted by how many people rated them), their number of installs, how recently they were updated and how closely they fit the category. Only apps we've reviewed are included.
