Station comparison apps suit commuters who pass many options and want the lowest price quickly. Loyalty apps fit people who already favor one fuel brand and want the rewards to add up, and fuel logs appeal to anyone tracking mileage, expenses or efficiency. Each kind gives something up. A wide price map may be thin in rural areas, a single-brand rewards app is deep but limited to that chain, and a manual log gives the most accurate personal data at the cost of entering every fill-up yourself.

What to look for

  • Check how prices are gathered and how often they refresh, since stale listings send you to a station that no longer matches the posted price.
  • Look at the rewards terms: whether points expire, what the minimum redemption is, and whether the discount applies to the whole purchase or only part of it.
  • Confirm that the app covers your area and the stations you normally use, because a wide national map can still be empty on your daily route.
  • Review what location and purchase data the app collects and whether an account is required, as fuel habits reveal where you live and drive.
  • Decide between free access supported by ads and a paid tier, and check whether offline use is possible for logging fill-ups where signal is weak.
