Most workplace apps try to be everything to everyone. UKG Pro takes the opposite approach: it is the phone side of a system your employer already runs, and it only works if that employer has switched it on for you. That single fact shapes everything else about it, and it is the first thing I would want a reader to understand.
The app is free, carries no ads and offers no in-app purchases, with more than 5 million installs and a 4.1 average from over 91,000 ratings. It arrived on Android in October 2023 and was last updated in October 2026.
So who is it for? People whose organization is an authorized UKG customer and has enabled mobile access. If your HR and payroll already live in UKG, this is the pocket version of that. If it does not, there is nothing here for you to sign into, and no amount of curiosity will change that.
Timekeeping is the centerpiece
The feature the developer leads with is time: clocking in and out from your phone, tracking your hours, and approving timecards if you are responsible for other people's. For hourly staff who move between locations or do not sit at a desk, that is the part that matters most, because it removes a trip to a terminal or a shared computer.
Managers get a parallel set of tools. Timecard exceptions surface for review, approvals and sign-off happen in the app, and push notifications are meant to let a manager act the moment something needs attention rather than waiting until the next time they open a laptop. The notification is the entry point, not just an alert.
Time off requests sit in the same area. Employees submit them, managers handle them, and both sides see the same record. That is the kind of small loop that gets messy when it lives in email, so having it in one place is the appeal.
Pay, goals and the rest of the HR toolkit
Beyond timekeeping, the app covers the everyday questions people have about their job. You can look at and update personal HR and pay information, view the organization chart to see how your team is put together, and run take-home pay estimates against different what-if scenarios. That last one is unusual to see in a mobile app of this type, and it is the feature I would expect people to open most often around raise season or before accepting a change in hours.
Professional goals are handled here too, for employees setting and tracking them and for managers reviewing them. There is also a communication layer: chat with teammates, teams and groups, plus employee resource groups built around work, hobbies and interests. Pulse surveys give people a way to weigh in, and achievements can be celebrated in the same space.
For managers, the reporting side rounds things out. Dashboards and reports give a view of what is happening across a team, and messaging works either one-to-one or to the group as a whole. None of this is exotic, but it is the set of things a supervisor actually reaches for during a shift.
What it asks of you and your employer
UKG Pro is available only to authorized customers of UKG. Access depends on your organization, and your admin may have to turn on individual features.
Practically, that changes how you should approach a problem. If something you expect to see is not there, the answer is usually an admin setting rather than a bug or a missing feature. The developer's own wording points in that direction, and it is worth knowing before you spend an evening reinstalling.
On cost, there is nothing to weigh on your side. The app is free to download, shows no ads, and has no in-app purchases. Whatever arrangement your employer has with UKG is a separate matter, and it is not something the app asks you to contribute to.
Getting the most from it day to day
The most useful habit I can suggest is to treat the app as your first stop for routine admin rather than a last resort. Clock in and out from it, submit time off there, and check your pay details in the same place instead of saving questions for a monthly catch-up. Everything you touch lives in the same system your HR team uses.
Managers should pay attention to notifications. Real-time action from push notifications is the core of the manager experience, so the app is meant to be responded to quickly rather than opened once a week. If you supervise a team, notifications are likely to be central to how you use the app.
It is also worth exploring the parts that are easy to overlook. The what-if pay calculator and the organization chart are not the features people install for, but they answer questions that otherwise turn into emails. The same goes for groups and pulse surveys.
One more note on upkeep: the most recent release is described as fixes and improvements, and the developer encourages auto-update so you get the latest features and fixes. Leaving automatic updates on is a simple way to keep up with changes.
A work app that knows its place
UKG Pro does not try to be a general productivity suite, and that is to its credit. It is a focused window into an employer's HR system: time, pay, goals, requests and team communication, presented for a phone. The 4.1 average comes from a large number of ratings.
The trade-off is dependency. Nothing here works without an employer that runs UKG and has enabled mobile access, and some features depend on an admin turning them on. For employees and managers inside that world, that is a fair exchange for having pay, timecards and approvals in your pocket. For everyone else, the app simply is not addressed to them.
If your organization uses UKG and has switched on mobile access, I would install it and give the timekeeping and pay tools a proper look, because those are the parts that save the most friction. If you are not sure whether your employer has enabled it, that is a question for your HR or IT team before anything else.
The short verdict
A focused, free mobile companion for UKG employees and managers, provided their organization has enabled access.

UKG Pro: frequently asked questions
Can anyone download and use UKG Pro?
No. Only authorized UKG customers can use it, so your organization must be one. Your employer also has to enable access to the mobile app before you can get in. Without both of those, there is nothing to sign into.
What can I do in the app as an employee?
You can view and update personal HR and pay information, see the organization chart, and estimate take-home pay under different what-if scenarios. The app also handles clocking in and out, timecard tracking, time off requests and professional goals. Chat with teammates and groups, employee resource groups, pulse surveys and achievement celebrations round it out.
What does the app offer people managers?
Managers can act in real time from push notifications, handle employee requests, and manage timecard exceptions, approvals and sign-off. Reports and dashboards give a view of the team, and goals can be reviewed and tracked. Messaging works both one-on-one and with the whole team.
Why are some features missing from my account?
Your admin may have to turn on certain features. Availability is decided at the organization level rather than by the app itself. If something you expect is not showing, your HR or IT team is the place to ask.
Does UKG Pro cost anything or show ads?
The app is free to download and contains no ads. There are also no in-app purchases, so nothing inside the app asks you to pay. Any licensing arrangement is between your employer and UKG.
