Desygner is a graphic design app from Desygner Pty Ltd, an Australian developer, and it has been on Google Play since December 2015. It sits in the Art & Design category, has passed five million installs and holds a 4.4 average from more than 100,000 ratings. The download is free, there are no ads, and in-app purchases exist in the form of paid plans.

The reason to consider it is scope. Most phone design tools stop at a social post and a download. Desygner is built to carry a job further: from a template or a short written brief through to a PDF you can print, or a physical order of business cards, flyers, posters and apparel delivered to your door. For a small business owner who wants one app rather than four, that breadth is the pitch.

The app was rebuilt from the ground up in its most recent update, and it is now part of Automo. According to the developer, the free tier includes all templates.

Templates, briefs and the editor underneath

The starting point is a template. Desygner covers social media formats for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube, along with logos, business documents, promotions, flyers, business cards, menus, presentations, resumes, certificates, invitations and covers for books, albums and podcasts. Templates are also grouped by industry, including real estate, food, hotels, education, health, beauty, automotive and events.

If a blank canvas is the problem, you can begin from a short brief instead and let the app propose a direction. The developer also offers AI credits that generate images, text and logo ideas, and a set of tools that rewrite, shorten or translate text inside a design. I would treat those as a way to get past the first ten minutes rather than as a substitute for deciding what you want to say.

Underneath the templates is a genuine editor rather than a caption tool. You work with layers, text, shapes, images and multiple pages, with fonts, photos, icons and stickers built in. Undo and redo are unlimited, which matters more than it sounds once you are moving elements around on a small screen, and a photo background can be removed in a single tap.

PDF editing and importing work you already have

The import story is unusually wide for a mobile design app. You can pull files from your phone, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, SharePoint or Google Photos, and any app on the device with a file picker can act as a source. That covers the practical cases: a logo a designer sent you, a document a client shared, a photo you already edited elsewhere.

More interesting is what happens after the import. A PDF can be opened and its text and images edited directly, Word and PowerPoint documents come in, and so do Adobe Illustrator, EPS, SVG and InDesign files. Designs made in Canva or Figma can be brought across and kept working on. Several PDFs can also be merged into a single document. Anyone who has tried to make a small change to a supplier's PDF on a phone will see why that combination is the part worth paying attention to.

I would expect the quality of the round trip to vary with how complex the original file is, since layered artwork and unusual fonts are hard to carry between tools. For straightforward documents and single-page artwork, though, having this inside the same app as the design editor removes a lot of file shuffling.

Brand kits, team assets and a card in your wallet

For anyone producing material regularly, the brand kit is the feature that saves the most time. You save your logo, colors and fonts once and then apply them to any design, so a new flyer starts on brand instead of being rebuilt from memory. An asset library keeps approved images and files in one place, and a shared workspace lets a team design from the same templates.

There is also a digital business card. You build it in the app, add it to Google Wallet and share it through a QR code, which is a neat way to hand over contact details without printing anything.

Projects sync between devices, so a design started on a phone can be finished on a tablet or a computer. In practice that is the difference between an app you open in a spare moment and one you can use for an afternoon's work.

Printing, merch and getting files out

Desygner does not stop at a download. Business cards, flyers, posters and canvas prints can be ordered and delivered, and the same goes for apparel and merchandise such as shirts, hoodies, mugs and tote bags. Cost and destination appear before you commit, which is where they belong.

For home printing, a print-ready PDF can be exported and a proof downloaded beforehand. Exports also cover PNG and JPG for social media and messaging, PDF for email and documents, and high-resolution downloads for print. A share link lets other people view a design without needing the file.

Support is handled from inside the app. The developer says template, export and font problems come first, with replies promised inside one business day and updates until each is resolved. That is a reasonable promise for a design tool, where a broken export is the failure that actually costs you a deadline.

What it asks of you, and the costs involved

Nothing is charged to download or use the app, and all templates come at no cost. The starter tier is therefore a complete product rather than a trial. Above it sit the Starter, Business and Scale plans, which raise your allowances and add things like team seats, more storage and monthly AI credits. Charges go through Google Play, and you can stop a plan whenever you like from your Play account settings.

The trade-off is that the more ambitious parts of the app lean on those allowances. AI image, text and logo generation runs on credits, so heavy use of the generative tools is where a plan starts to look attractive. Storage and team seats scale the same way, which matters if you are keeping an asset library for several people rather than designing alone.

The other consideration is range. This is a tool that covers an enormous amount of ground, and the price of that is a busier app than a single-purpose editor. If your work is one narrow task repeated often, a smaller tool may feel quicker. If your work is varied, the breadth is the point.

Suited to small businesses and solo brands

The clearest fit is a small business or a solo operator who has to produce their own marketing. A cafe that needs a menu, a price list, a promo post and a printed flyer can do all four here, keep them on brand with a saved kit, and order the printing without leaving the app. Real estate agents, event organizers and anyone running promotions fall into the same group.

Freelancers and side projects are the second fit. Logos, business cards, resumes, certificates and podcast artwork all sit within the template catalog, and the digital business card gives you something to hand over at a meeting. The import tools also help anyone who receives artwork from a client or a designer and needs to make small changes without opening a desktop program.

Teams that share a visual identity are the third. A shared workspace and an asset library are aimed at groups producing material from the same templates, and the higher plans exist for exactly that kind of use. Someone who only ever needs one social post a month will find plenty here, but they will not be touching most of it.

A broad design tool worth trying before you pay for anything

Desygner's strongest argument is that it treats the phone as a place to finish work rather than a place to start it. PDF editing, wide file imports, print-ready export and physical ordering in one app is a combination few mobile design tools offer, and the free tier with every template included means you can find out whether the editor suits you before spending anything. The 4.4 average across more than 100,000 ratings suggests a lot of people have found it workable.

The parts to weigh are the allowances. AI generation, storage and team seats are what the paid plans raise, so a solo user doing occasional design work may never need them, while a busy team probably will. I would also expect anyone with a single repetitive task to prefer something narrower.

If you run a small business, a freelance practice or a brand that needs both on-screen and printed material, this is the kind of app to install and try on a real job. Start with one template, take it through to an export, and judge it on whether the result was something you would actually send.

The short verdict

A free, wide-ranging design app that suits small businesses needing both digital posts and printed material.

Desygner: Graphic Design Maker: frequently asked questions

Is Desygner really free to use?

There is no charge to download or use the app, and the developer says all templates are included free. Paid Starter, Business and Scale plans exist on top of that, raising your allowances and adding things like team seats, more storage and monthly AI credits. Charges go through Google Play, and you can stop a plan whenever you like from your Play account settings.

Can I edit a PDF in Desygner?

Yes. A PDF can be brought in so that its text and images can be edited, and several PDFs can be combined into one document. Importing works from your phone, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, SharePoint and Google Photos, as well as any app on your device that offers a file picker.

What file types can I bring into the app?

Alongside PDFs, Desygner imports Word and PowerPoint documents and artwork in Adobe Illustrator, EPS, SVG and InDesign formats. Designs made in Canva or Figma can be brought in and kept editing. Exports cover PNG and JPG for social media and messaging, PDF for email and printing, and high-resolution downloads for print work.

Can I order printed products through Desygner?

You can order business cards, flyers, posters and canvas prints and have them delivered, and you can also place a design on apparel and merchandise such as shirts, hoodies, mugs and tote bags. Cost and destination appear before you commit. For home printing, a print-ready PDF can be exported and a proof downloaded beforehand.

What do the AI features in Desygner do?

AI credits let you generate images, text and logo ideas, and there are tools to reword, condense or translate a design's text. You can also start a design from a short brief if you are not sure where to begin. Monthly AI credits are one of the things the paid plans increase.
