About screen recorders
Some devices have a built-in recorder, but it can be limited, so separate apps add internal audio capture, facecam overlays, drawing tools and editing before export. Some stay minimal and simply save a clean file; others add a floating control button, microphone and system sound mixing, countdown timers, resolution and frame rate settings, and trimming. Decide whether you need internal audio, a facecam bubble or long recordings. Heavier feature sets often mean more permissions, larger files and a busier interface.
What to look for
- Check which audio sources the app can capture, because recording internal sound, the microphone, or both at once changes what the video is useful for.
- Look at the resolution and frame rate options and any time limit, since a cap on length or quality can make the recording useless for tutorials or long sessions.
- Confirm whether a watermark is added and whether removing it requires watching an ad, buying a paid version, or a subscription.
- Review the permissions requested, especially overlay and accessibility access, because those are needed for on-screen controls but can be intrusive.
- Consider where recordings are saved and how large they get, so storage does not fill up during a long capture.
