About pool & billiards games

Good ones get the physics close enough that a bank shot behaves as expected and keep the aiming controls out of the way of the shot. Casual players want a quick frame, while serious players want an accurate simulation, and the two prefer different designs. Some games center on quick online matches against strangers, others on a long solo career against a computer player you can set to your level, and others on local play with someone in the same room. They also let you practice angles with no hall nearby.

What to look for

  • Check how the cue is aimed and how much fine control you get over power and spin, because a game that only lets you drag a single line makes precise position play frustrating.
  • Look at how strong the computer opponent is and whether its difficulty can be adjusted, since a fixed opponent is either too easy to hold attention or too hard to enjoy.
  • See whether the table physics reward real technique such as English and cushion angles, or whether shots resolve in a way that ignores how you struck the ball.
  • Consider how the game is paid for, whether that means ads between frames, a single unlock, or paid extras such as new cues and tables, and decide if that fits how often you play.
  • Check whether a match can be played offline and whether progress is stored on the device, which matters on a commute or anywhere the connection drops.

How we rank

Apps are ranked by their Google Play rating (weighted by how many people rated them), their number of installs, how recently they were updated and how closely they fit the category. Only apps we've reviewed are included.
