Most grocery apps do one job well and leave the rest to the store. The ACME Markets app takes the opposite approach, folding delivery and curbside pickup together with coupons, fuel points, pharmacy refills and a wellness tracker, all tied to an Albertsons Companies account. That breadth is the most distinctive thing about it, and it is also why the app suits one type of shopper in particular.
If ACME is already where you buy groceries, the appeal is obvious: one login covers your weekly order, the prescriptions you pick up on the way home and the points you redeem at the pump. If you shop elsewhere, the value is harder to see, since the deals, rewards and pickup slots are tied to ACME's own stores and fuel stations. I would treat this as a companion app for existing customers rather than a general-purpose grocery tool.
It costs nothing to download, and the developer supports it with advertising. There is no in-app purchase option, though FreshPass, the delivery subscription described further down, is a paid program. The app has been on Google Play since March 2018 and carries a 4.8 average from more than 45,000 ratings, with over a million installs.
Ordering groceries without the trip
The core of the app is getting groceries to you. You can have an order delivered to your door, or choose DriveUp & Go for curbside pickup, where store staff bring the bags out to your car. Both paths run through the same cart, so the choice is about your schedule rather than a different way of shopping.
Schedule & Save is the feature I would expect regulars to lean on. It automates a standing order of household essentials, which suits the things you buy every week without thinking: milk, bread, detergent, pet food. Set it up once and the app repeats the order, which the developer says saves more on each one. Flash delivery, a 30-minute service, is available in select markets, so whether you can use it depends on where you live.
Building an order is designed to be quick. The app surfaces frequent purchases, recommendations and past orders for fast adding, keeps your order history available for reordering, and lets you save favorite household items. You can also scan barcodes at home to drop products straight into your digital cart, which is useful when you are standing in front of an empty shelf and want to note what needs replacing.
Meal planning, recipes and the shopping assistant
Meal planning is where the app tries to save you a separate step. There are thousands of shoppable recipes, and the ingredient lists connect to your cart so you can add everything a dish needs in one tap. You can import your own recipes as well, which the app converts into a digital shopping list, so the meals you already cook can feed the same system.
Ask AI is the assistant built into the app. You type in everyday language and it responds with recipe ideas, items matched to dietary needs or product comparisons. The developer's examples include meal ideas from chicken and rice, and gluten-free snack searches. What appeals to me here is the plain-language entry point: instead of browsing categories, you describe what you want and let the assistant build a list.
I would not expect this to replace a dedicated recipe service. The recipes here exist to be shopped, which is the point, and the assistant is a way into the catalog rather than an end in itself. For weeknight planning and turning a vague idea into a full cart, though, the combination of imported recipes, one-tap adding and a conversational search box covers the ground most households need.
Coupons, rewards and the fuel discount
Savings are handled in a few connected places. You clip digital coupons in the app, browse hundreds of weekly grocery coupons and exclusive offers, and watch the discounts apply at checkout. The for U rewards program earns and redeems automatically as you shop, so points accumulate without a separate step.
Fuel is the other half of the rewards story. Points can be redeemed and paid for gas in the app, at a rate of 10 cents off per gallon for each 100 points, capped at $1 off per gallon. The discount applies at select Safeway, Albertsons, Tom Thumb, Carrs, Randalls, Acme and Vons-owned stations, so it is worth knowing which ones are near you before counting on it.
FreshPass is the paid tier, a subscription giving unlimited free delivery on eligible grocery orders plus perks and savings for subscribers. The app itself is free with ads and no in-app purchases, so FreshPass is a separate arrangement rather than something you buy inside the app. If you order delivery often enough, the math may work in your favor; occasional shoppers can clip coupons and collect points without it.
Pharmacy, health tracking and paying with benefits
The pharmacy side is more developed than I would expect from a grocery app. Through DriveUp & Go, eligible prescriptions can be ordered and picked up curbside at over 1,700 pharmacy locations nationwide. Refills can cover family members and pets, prescriptions can be transferred to save on a later grocery order, and you can schedule vaccine appointments, access health tests and bundle a pharmacy pickup with your groceries in one trip.
Sincerely Health is the wellness hub. It tracks nutrition, steps, sleep and activity, then rewards you for eating better, moving more and staying active. Goal-setting tools, rewards for healthy choices, daily metrics and tailored health insights round out the feature set. Whether that motivates you depends on how you feel about another tracker, but it is built into the same app as your grocery list rather than being a separate download.
Depending on the state, qualifying items paid with SNAP/EBT can be ordered for delivery or DriveUp & Go. In-store use is the only option for WIC benefits, and only at participating locations. The app also supports gift orders: you shop, add a personalized message and send groceries, flowers, chocolates or everyday essentials to someone's door or for store pickup, selected at checkout with no extra gifting fees.
What the app asks of you
The first requirement is an account. Everything here runs through a signed-in profile tied to your orders, rewards and prescriptions.
The second is geography. Delivery, Flash's 30-minute service and DriveUp & Go pickup depend on where you are, and the fuel discount applies at select stations from a named list of banners. SNAP/EBT online payment is subject to state availability, and WIC is an in-store benefit at participating locations. Anyone outside ACME's footprint will find much of the app's value out of reach.
Then there is the advertising. The app is free and supported by ads, which is the trade you accept for the coupons, rewards and ordering tools. If you would rather not see them, that is a consideration. FreshPass is the one paid program mentioned, and it is about delivery and perks rather than removing anything.
Grocery shoppers who already use ACME
The clearest audience is a household that already shops at ACME Markets and wants the store's deals, points and pharmacy in one place. If you clip coupons, fill prescriptions and buy gas at the same chain, the app connects all three, and the automatic rewards and fuel conversion give those habits a running total. The meal planning tools and imported recipes then sit on top of a system you are already using.
It also suits people who want to hand off the weekly shop. Schedule & Save handles the repeat items, delivery or curbside pickup handles the trip, and the assistant handles the question of what to cook. Families managing several prescriptions, or anyone sending groceries to a relative, will find those features more useful than the average grocery app offers.
Someone without an ACME store or fuel station nearby has little reason to bother. The value is concentrated in the chain's own stores, stations and participating pharmacies, and the benefits that travel beyond them are limited.
A practical companion for ACME regulars
The ACME Markets app is best understood as the digital front door to a grocery chain rather than a standalone shopping tool. It handles delivery and curbside pickup, automates repeat orders, turns recipes into carts, clips coupons, tracks rewards and fuel savings, refills prescriptions and adds a wellness tracker on top.
The trade-offs are the ones the app sets for itself. You need an account, you need to be within ACME's delivery and pickup areas to get the most from it, and the fuel discount is limited to select stations. The advertising is part of the free arrangement, and FreshPass is there if you want subscription delivery perks. None of that is unusual for a retailer's app, but it does mean the value rises and falls with how close you are to the stores.
If ACME is your regular grocery stop, I would install it and set up Schedule & Save early, then let the coupons and points accumulate.
The short verdict
A free, ad-supported app that pays off for ACME regulars who want ordering, coupons, pharmacy and fuel points in one place.

How does the fuel discount work in the ACME Markets app?
You earn points through the for U rewards program and can pay and redeem them for fuel inside the app. The discount tops out at $1 per gallon, reached at 1,000 points, since every 100 points cuts 10 cents. The discount applies at select Safeway, Albertsons, Tom Thumb, Carrs, Randalls, Acme and Vons-owned stations.
What is Schedule & Save and what does it do?

Yes.
