Cloudhouse’s launch came about in 2020 on a tide of hype from its exclusivity. Upon launch it was invite only, and this alone was enough to spark a frenzy of users wanting to get it. It’s almost as if Clubhouse took notes from Facebook’s highly exclusive Harvard-only launch, which helped it go viral back in the early 2000s. After a waiting list exceeding 10 million users, Clubhouse finally opened the floodgates and allowed anyone in.
Now even if you don’t have a friend who’s already a member you can sign up and “Bounce around the hallways of the Internet and meet incredible people”, as the official site claims you will.
To get started with installing Clubhouse on your Android or iOS device (it’s only for smartphones and tablets, not for desktops), head over to your device’s app store (Google Play for Android, App Store for iOS), search for “Clubhouse” and tap ‘Install’ or whatever the equivalent is. The app will start downloading to your device.
Upon installation, the next step is to open the app and click the blue ‘Welcome in’ button. Clubhouse will then request your phone number and a SMS verification code. It will then prompt you to enter your full name, choose a username, and select a profile photo. You may then choose to follow friends from your contact list who are already using Clubhouse. It will then ask you for 5 interests, and recommend you some rooms before giving you the freedom to browse them at your own leisure. You can either enjoy Clubhouse’s infinite scroll or search for specific keywords to find rooms suited to your interests.
Upon joining a room, you’ll most likely be entering in the middle of a discussion and be muted upon arrival. To indicate that you want to speak, simply tap the hand button at the bottom right and wait your turn until the host unmutes you.
Does clubhouse live up to its 2020 hype? Probably not, to be honest; you don’t hear many people talking about it now the waiting list is gone and it’s open to the public. Clubhouse is certainly an innovative idea, and it’s good that it’s finally open to the public, but it isn’t likely to go viral again or change the world.
The app is easy enough to use, with clear options of various topics and user-created rooms to jump into and join in the banter. However, it’s difficult to enforce voice-chat etiquette in Clubhouse without the assistance of a moderator, so rooms often become a confusion of too many people trying to get a word in at the same time.
However, it’s not all bad for Clubhouse; it does seem to be working well for some people. There is a lot of positive feedback on the app and on forums, and there are a lot of users who seem to enjoy it. In fact, there are a lot of positive reviews on the app store. The app has a 4.8 star rating on Google play, and a 4.5 star rating on the App store.
Most of the negative reviews seem to be from people who didn’t realise that the app was voice-based, and so were disappointed when they found out. While there certainly aren’t as many reviews as some apps, there are still a good number of them, and they seem to be mostly positive.
The user interface of the app is well designed, and easy to use, and the app is easy to navigate. There’s a lot to love about this app, and it seems to be well liked.
However, the main issue with Clubhouse is that it’s solely voice-based, and a lot of people don’t like this.

The main reason for this may be that for people who are visually impaired, voice is more accessible and easier to use. Text-based apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Snapchat are all very popular. However, they are all text-based, and this can be a problem for people who are visually impaired.
There are a lot of people who are visually impaired on this planet, with estimates ranging from 285 million to more than 350 million, so it makes sense that a voice-based app would be a good idea.
In fact, it seems to be working for a lot of people, with most of the positive reviews on the app store and Google Play Store coming from people with visual impairments. However, there are still a lot of people who aren’t fans of the app, and perhaps aren’t likely to get it. So while Clubhouse has a lot of potential, it’s not likely to change the social media game.
On the other hand, there are a lot of people who are fans of this app, and so there is hope for it yet. In terms of the future for Clubhouse, it seems to be looking good; the app is being used by a lot of people, and it’s gaining popularity. The fact that it’s the only voice-based app on the market is a good thing for it, as it’s the only app of its kind out there.
Most seem to have forgotten this isn’t the first time we’ve had a voice-based chat room; Paltalk has been around since 1998.
Is Clubhouse a contender in the social media game? No. However, it’s certainly a good app, and it’s gaining popularity, so it’s not going anywhere just yet.
